4 Day Bwindi Gorilla Trek Tour and Queen Elizabeth Park Wildlife Safari in the Pearl of Africa-Uganda
Bwindi National Park is most notable for being home of over 400 of the world’s critically endangered estimate of 880 (November 2012) mountain gorilla population, which has been under protection since 1964. There are 12 habituated mountain gorilla families/groups open to tourism here. Bwindi forest vegetation has been in existence at least 25,000 years, – there is about 310 species of butterfly, 51 reptiles, 200 trees, 88 moths and an exceptional 120 types of mammal including 10 primates. The latter includes chimpanzee, L’Hoest’s, red tailed and blue monkey, black and white colobus, baboon, and of course the famous residents – the mountain gorillas. Bwindi is a prime destination for birdwatchers. Its 350 species include seven which are IUCN red data listed and 90% of all Albertine rift endemics, species which are difficult or even can’t in any other part of East Africa .
Queen Elizabeth National Park is near Bwindi Gorilla Park (less than 3 hrs), – its covered by the African savannah, crater lakes, Kazinga Channel, Lake George and Lake Edward, the Ishasha Plains with its Tree climbing lions, Kyambura Gorge with its chimpanzees, Maramagambo and of course lots of animals such as Elephants, Lions, Hyenas, Leopards, Monkeys, Warthogs, Bush pigs, Hippos, Crocodiles, Antelopes of all kind, over 600 kinds of birds, bat caves, chimpanzees, butterflies and in the distance is the tallest mountain range in Africa, the Rwenzoris with its snow-capped peaks and glaciers, it is simply an awesome picture.
Courtesy Go wild adventures uganda when it comes to Safari Travel, we know you have a lot of choices.
Day 1: Drive to Bwindi Gorilla Park
We depart Kampala at an early hour for your Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Mountain Gorilla Tracking (Trekking) adventure. Lunch at Mbarara at the Lake view Hotel then off again through some of beautiful Silverback Lodge-bwindi countryside of Uganda toward Bwindi Forest for our much anticipated rendezvous with the world’s critically endangered mountain gorillas of Uganda.
We reach our destination late afternoon for rest and relaxation and dinner at the Bwindi Forest accommodation of your choice not far from the gorilla family you are visiting the next morning.
The Buhoma Community Camp for budget and Silverback Lodge for Mid-range. The location of lodging depends on where your permits are for in the park. – A well deserved rest preparing for the Gorilla Tracking (trekking) experience the next day, but tonight you are sleeping in an African Rainforest that is home to half of the world’s Mountain Gorillas.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking (Tracking) Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Have an early breakfast and be at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park offices for orientation and meeting with guides and other trackers (if any). Small groups not exceeding 8 trackers/gorilla family will enter into the Forest for a day. Take a packed lunch, you will need it,…its included in your room price and not refundable once missed.
Then it is off for your own Gorillas in the Mist experience. Beautiful hike through the jungle. Mist and clouds rolling in randomly. Tons of birds and noises, a few monkeys. You are hiking through this mysterious and magnificent forest where there is much else to see on your way to your Mountain Gorilla Group. The flora and fauna, the other primates, mammals, birds, butterflies will be most beautiful and only enhance this very special day.
Time taken may vary depending on the terrain and movement of these gentle giants. Mountain gorillas never stay in one place twice; they move and build a new nest every day so there is nothing like closest or furthest gorilla family, but the treks may be different. The excitement of meeting face to face is so rewarding.
4 Day Bwindi Gorilla Trek Tour and Queen Elizabeth Park Wildlife can involve some rigorous climbing and hiking but then you are face to face with these powerful Mountain Gorillas, observing them just a few meters from you watching the group, mothers with a baby, the gorillas doing their daily routine and you are there. You will not find the mountain gorillas in any zoo, but only in this small section of Africa where the remaining mountain gorillas are found.
Fortunately and due to much work they are thriving and surviving here at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and you are there seeing them up close and personal. Afterwards it is a return to headquarters depending on time and your energy levels a village walk, where you will see traditional ways, from brewing of beer to remedies made from the forest. There will be some dancing and entertainment as you observe the ways of the local people and it is certainly worth your while.
Day 3: Drive to Queen Elizabeth Park – the famous Tree-Climbing Lions Ishasha Sector
After breakfast we drive through stunning savannah grasslands, We enter Queen Elizabeth Park in the south and do a game drive in the remote and unvisited part of the park Ishasha-sector. Game densities here are high, and this region has reported some of the largest herds of Elephant anywhere in Uganda, as it is their main migration corridor between Uganda and the DRC. Continue to your Queen Elizabeth Park lodging, Bush lodge is perfect for better budget and has good views of the Kazinga channel and Mweya lodge good for luxury, check in, then lunch.
Enjoy some unscheduled time and after lunch, its off for the boat safari along the Kazinga Channel where you see hippos, hippos and more hippos – Kazinga Channel has the highest concentration of hippos in Africa. In between are hundreds of birds of all kinds i.e African spoonbill, Afrcan skimmers, papyrus Gonolek, 4 Day Bwindi Gorilla Trek Tour and Queen Elizabeth Park Wildlife SafariMartial Eagle Pelicans and many others, some crocodiles and of course more hippos. Along the shore, you see Elephants, water buffaloes, if you see a lone buffalo in water, he has been kicked out of the herd and in the water finds more protection from predators such as lions as they often show up for a drink in the late afternoon.
About 40 kilometers of a natural channel connecting Lake Edward and Lake George and at the same time, divided Queen Elizabeth Park into two. The launch cruise here is one of the highlights of visiting Queen Elizabeth Park. It is simply a fabulous. Return to the lodge, your enjoy dinner and another night under the African star filled sky as you sit outside quietly taking it all in.
Day 4 Early Morning Game Safari and Homeward Drive-Kampala
There is nothing like a breakfast while on Safari and there is nothing like the smell of it as you awaken. It is off to a morning game drive catching some of the nocturnal animals as they call it a 4 Day Gorilla and Wildlife short Safaris in Uganda at night. As you drive along there is nothing like a herd of Elephants moving across the track ahead of you. A pair of lions in the distant savannah grass. Buffaloes grazing in the early morning hour. Birds flying overhead, maybe a rock python here or there. We have an excellent chance to view just about every animal here up close. The game track rides last about 2½ to 3 hours but you won’t even realize the time has gone by.
Return to your lodge for full breakfast and afterward, drive to Kampala (about 5 hours driving) via Mubende.
